Thanksgiving weekend

I feel like it's been a long time since I wrote here. I thought about writing about my Thanksgiving weekend, but my Thanksgivings are always pretty uneventful so it's kind of pointless to go into much detail.

I did really want to write about the Long Island Rail Road on Wednesday, but my phone battery was dead and I didn't have a camera with me. But it's getting increasingly funny/annoying lately seeing how the media creates their own narrative that's independent of what's actually happening in the world - this year, it was how nobody was traveling on Thanksgiving. To prove that point, I actually saw one reporter standing outside Penn Station at around 7PM talking about how dead it was. Yeah, because first of all, most of the passengers are actually inside the station, and second of all, everybody left the city at 3PM like I did!

The LIRR put seven extra trains on around that time, but even still they had us packed in like sardines. People completely jammed into the vestibules and then standing all up and down the aisles. I had some stupid woman blathering on her cell phone into my face the entire way home - neither one of us could move. I almost told her to shut up, but sometimes I'm too nice. I had to transfer at Jamaica and every single train that passed was just as crowded. It was crazy. I've never seen it like that. Well, except for when the entire system breaks down, as happens occasionally.

Anyway, for Thanksgiving I made this, from scratch:

It was pretty good. My mom made everything else. She still doesn't know what vegetables I can eat - I had a green-free Thanksgiving meal. The turkey, stuffing and potatoes all turned out well, though.

It took us more than three hours to get home because of the traffic. Here's a random part of our drive, just to give you something else to look at:

I'll post something else soon...

About This Blog

This is increasingly not a blog about Alphabet City, New York. I used to live in the East Village and work on Avenue B, but I no longer do. Why don't I change the name if I'm writing about Japan and video games and guitars? Because New Yorkers are well-rounded people with varied interests, and mine have gone increasingly off the rails over the years. And I don't feel like changing the name. I do still write about New York City sometimes.
