The original Japanese "The Office"

I don't know how I missed this when it was on - I do normally watch SNL every week. (And no, I'm not embarrassed to admit that.) This is pretty funny, and only partly for the reason Ricky Gervais gives at the end.

The pronunciation is frankly awful, but the dialogue surprisingly mostly does make sense - what I can understand, anyway. But it's obviously meant to be funny whether you understand or not. And it is!

(By the way, if you yourself are from Japan and wondering what this is all about, here is the official page for the US version of the TV show this is making fun of, and here is the page for the real original and 'far superior' British version.)

About This Blog

This is increasingly not a blog about Alphabet City, New York. I used to live in the East Village and work on Avenue B, but I no longer do. Why don't I change the name if I'm writing about Japan and video games and guitars? Because New Yorkers are well-rounded people with varied interests, and mine have gone increasingly off the rails over the years. And I don't feel like changing the name. I do still write about New York City sometimes.
